Eleo vs Shopify vs Bumpa: Which Platform Is Best for African SMEs?
Eleo, Shopify and Bumpa compared for Nigerian and African retailers: POS, inventory, online selling, payments, multi-location and pricing.
If you run a small or medium business in Nigeria or elsewhere in Africa, three names come up when you look for software to sell and manage stock: Shopify, Bumpa and Eleo. They are not the same kind of product, and that is the most useful thing to understand before comparing features.
- Shopify is a global online-store builder with POS available as an add-on.
- Bumpa is a Nigerian business-tools app: a storefront, order links, a basic POS, customer records and local payment collection.
- Eleo is a Commerce OS: POS, inventory, online selling, accounting, production costing, procurement and multi-location management on one data model.
This piece compares them honestly, including where each of the other two is the better choice. Prices and plan facts below were checked against the vendors' own pages in September 2026 — they change, so verify before you buy.

Feature by feature
Point of sale
Shopify sells POS Pro as an add-on at $89 per location per month on top of the store plan. It is a capable retail POS, built around card payments through Shopify Payments, which is not available in most African markets.
Bumpa includes a POS app on web, mobile and tablet on every paid plan. It records sales against your catalog; it is not designed for split tenders, till reconciliation or shift handovers.
Eleo treats the POS as the centre of the business: split payments, barcode scanning, cash and bank-transfer tenders, till float and end-of-day reconciliation, and it keeps selling when the connection drops.
Best for physical retail: Eleo.
Online store
Shopify is the reference point for e-commerce: themes, an enormous app store, checkout optimisation and global logistics partners.
Bumpa gives you a business website with order links you can share on WhatsApp and Instagram, which is exactly how most Nigerian social sellers trade.
Eleo gives every store a storefront on eleo.store and a marketplace listing, with stock shared live with the till so you never sell online what you sold in the shop an hour ago. It has fewer themes than Shopify.
Best for pure e-commerce at scale: Shopify. Best for social selling on a budget: Bumpa. Best when the shop and the site must share one stock: Eleo.
Inventory
Shopify tracks quantities per location and supports transfers, but costing, purchase orders and production are apps you add.
Bumpa tracks quantity and price per product, with location management on its higher plans (two locations on Growth, three on Scale).
Eleo tracks stock per location with weighted-average cost, low-stock alerts, stock counts, transfers, purchase orders from suppliers, and recipe or batch costing for producers — so gross margin is a report, not a spreadsheet.
Best for anything beyond counting units: Eleo.
Payments
Shopify routes through Shopify Payments where available; elsewhere you use a third-party gateway and pay a per-transaction fee to Shopify on top (2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced).
Bumpa integrates the Nigerian rails — Paystack, Flutterwave and transfers — and collects on your behalf.
Eleo integrates Paystack, Moniepoint and OPay terminals, bank transfer, cash and mobile money, and reconciles each into one ledger. No platform percentage on top of the gateway's fee.
Best for Nigerian payment methods: Eleo and Bumpa, tied.
Accounting and money
Shopify exports to QuickBooks or Xero through apps; the books live elsewhere.
Bumpa records expenses and generates invoices and receipts, but does not keep double-entry books.
Eleo keeps a double-entry ledger, cash management, payroll and a P&L that reconciles to your tills and gateways — because the sales, stock and cost data are already in the same system.
Best for knowing whether you made money this month: Eleo.
Multi-location
Shopify supports multiple locations on one store, with POS Pro billed per location.
Bumpa allows two locations on Growth and three on Scale.
Eleo is built around an organisation with many stores: shared or per-store catalogs, transfers, per-store staff permissions, consolidated reporting and org-level customers.
Best for chains: Eleo.
Offline
Shopify POS keeps a limited offline mode for card sales. Bumpa is a web and mobile app that expects a connection. Eleo runs offline-first on the till and on the Edge desktop app, syncing when the network returns — a hard requirement for most Nigerian shops.
Pricing
Software subscription only; gateway fees apply on every platform.
Shopify (USD, monthly billing; 25–30% less on annual): Basic $27, Grow $72, Advanced $399, Plus from $2,300. POS Pro is $89 per location per month extra.
Bumpa (NGN, billed quarterly): Starter ₦5,000/month, Pro ₦10,000/month. Growth and Scale are sold on annual billing only; see their pricing page for current rates. Two things a growing business will want — the API key and the product, order and customer exports — are only on Growth and Scale, so plan for that tier if you expect to move your data anywhere.
Eleo starts free and prices in your local currency; see the current plans at eleo.app/pricing. Extra staff licences are discounted, and there is no per-location POS add-on.
Cheapest to start: Bumpa. Best value once you have stock and staff: Eleo. Most expensive by a distance: Shopify, once POS and apps are added.
Where the other two win
We would rather you choose well than choose us.
- Choose Shopify if your customers are mostly outside Africa, you want the largest app ecosystem, and you have the budget. It is the best online store builder in the world; it is just not a Nigerian retail system.
- Choose Bumpa if you sell through WhatsApp and Instagram, have no shop floor, and want the cheapest way to take orders and payments today. It is a good first tool.
- Choose Eleo if you have a counter, a stockroom, staff, suppliers, or a second location — or expect to. It replaces the POS, inventory, accounting and store builder you would otherwise stitch together.
Moving from Bumpa to Eleo
Many Eleo merchants started on Bumpa and outgrew it. Eleo has a built-in importer: connect with your Bumpa API key or upload its export files, preview the products (with stock, prices and costs) and customers that will be created, and import. Records already in Eleo are never overwritten, and your Bumpa order history stays where it is. The walkthrough is at eleo.app/switch/bumpa, and the positioning summary at Eleo vs Bumpa.
The bottom line
Shopify is an online store. Bumpa is a social-selling toolkit. Eleo is the operating system for a business that sells in person and online, keeps stock, and needs to know its numbers. Pick the one that matches the business you are running next year, not the one you had last year — and if that is Eleo, start free and bring your data with you.
