Cash Registers

Set up and manage cash registers with default floats, maximum thresholds, and cashier assignments.

A cash register in Eleo represents a physical cash drawer at your store. Each register has its own configuration for opening float, maximum cash threshold, and can be assigned to a specific cashier. Registers are the foundation of the cash management workflow — shifts are opened against a register, and all transactions flow through it.

Register settings

Each cash register has the following configurable properties:

  • Name — A recognizable label for the drawer (e.g. “Front Counter”, “Drive-Through 1”).
  • Default opening float — The amount of cash that should be in the drawer when a shift starts. This is used as the suggested value when a cashier opens a new shift.
  • Maximum cash threshold — When the drawer exceeds this amount, Eleo triggers a safe-drop reminder. This helps minimize the cash at risk in the drawer.
  • Assigned cashier — Optionally lock a register to a specific team member. When assigned, only that person can open shifts on this register.
  • Status — Registers can be marked as Active, Idle, or Under Maintenance. Only active registers can have shifts opened against them.

Adding a register

  1. 1

Navigate to Cash & Tills → Registers

Open the sidebar and click Cash Management, then select Registers. You will see a grid of all existing registers with their current status.

  2. 2

    Click “Add Register”

Click the Add Register button in the top-right corner to open the register creation form.

  3. 3

    Fill in register details

Enter a name, set the default opening float amount, and configure the maximum cash threshold. Optionally assign the register to a team member.

  4. 4

    Save

Click Save to create the register. It will appear on the dashboard in an idle state until a shift is opened against it.

Register status

The register grid on the Cash Dashboard uses colour coding so you can see the state of every drawer at a glance:

  • Green — Active. A shift is currently open and the register is operating normally.
  • Yellow — Idle. No shift is open but the register is available.
  • Red — Alert. There is an active alert on this register, such as a variance threshold exceeded or an overdue safe drop.
  • Grey — Maintenance. The register has been taken offline and cannot accept shifts.

Putting a register into maintenance mode will prevent anyone from opening new shifts against it. Any currently open shift must be closed first before the register can be set to maintenance.

One register per location is fine

If your store has a single cash drawer, you only need one register. Multi-register setups are useful for stores with multiple checkout points, drive-throughs, or market stalls.
