Production
Recipes, work orders, batches, scheduling, and production analytics.
What is Production?
Eleo’s Production module gives you end-to-end control over manufacturing and assembly. Define how products are made with recipes and bills of materials, issue work orders to your production floor, track batches for quality and traceability, schedule capacity to meet demand, and monitor performance with real-time analytics.
Whether you run a restaurant kitchen prepping daily sauces, a bakery producing loaves across two ovens, or a small cosmetics lab mixing skincare products, the Production module keeps every step — from raw materials to finished goods — visible and accountable.
How it works
Production in Eleo follows a clear flow that connects your inventory with your finished products:
- Recipes & BOM — Define the ingredients or components that go into each product, along with quantities, units, and expected yield. For example, a bakery creates a recipe for chin chin listing 2 kg flour, 200 g sugar, 100 ml milk, and 4 eggs per batch of 50 packs.
- Work Orders — Create a work order to produce a specific quantity of a product. Work orders pull materials from inventory based on the recipe. A restaurant, for instance, issues a morning work order for 20 litres of jollof base sauce before the lunch rush.
- Batches & Lots — Track each production run with a unique batch or lot number for traceability, expiry management, and quality control. A juice bar labels each morning’s cold-pressed batch so any customer complaint can be traced back to the exact production run.
- Scheduling — Plan when production runs happen so you can optimise capacity, avoid bottlenecks, and meet delivery deadlines. A small cosmetics maker, for example, schedules shea butter mixing on Monday and packaging on Wednesday to share the same workspace.
- Costing & Wastage — Monitor the actual cost of each production run, compare it to the expected cost, and track material waste to improve efficiency. After a weekend bake, a pastry kitchen can see that their puff-puff batch cost ₦12,400 against an expected ₦10,800 — the extra came from 1.5 kg of wasted dough.
- Analytics — Review production throughput, yield rates, cost trends, and wastage metrics on a centralised dashboard.
Key features
- Recipe Management — Build and version recipes with flexible ingredient quantities, preparation steps, and yield calculations. When your suya spice blend recipe changes, create a new version so historical costs stay intact.
- Work Order Lifecycle — Move work orders through draft, in progress, quality check, and completed stages with full audit trails.
- Batch Tracking — Assign unique batch and lot numbers to every production run for regulatory compliance and recall readiness. If a customer reports an off-taste in a yoghurt cup, you can trace it to the exact batch and the milk supplier lot that fed it.
- Auto-Consumption — When a work order is completed, raw materials are automatically deducted from inventory based on the recipe quantities. No more manually subtracting 10 kg of flour after every bake.
- Demand Planning — Get restock alerts from each product’s sales velocity, reorder point and lead time, and turn them into work orders or purchase orders before you run out. If your meat pies start selling faster, the reorder point rises to match.
- Production Costing — Calculate the true cost of every finished product by summing material costs, labour, and overheads.
- Wastage Tracking — Record and categorise material waste by reason (spoilage, damage, process loss) to identify improvement opportunities.
- Outsourced Production — Manage work orders that are fulfilled by external manufacturers or co-packers. A snack brand that outsources packaging to a co-packer can still track quantities, costs, and timelines in one place.
Before creating work orders, set up your recipes. A well-defined recipe ensures that material consumption, costing, and batch tracking all work automatically when you start producing.
Getting started
To begin using Production, follow these steps:
- Create recipes for your finished products, specifying the raw materials, quantities, and expected yield.
- Issue a work order to produce a batch of a product. The system will check material availability and reserve stock.
- As production progresses, update the work order status and record any wastage or quality observations.
- Complete the work order to trigger auto-consumption of raw materials and add the finished goods to inventory.
- Review the Production Analytics dashboard to monitor throughput, cost trends, and wastage rates.
