Syncing
Understand how Eleo Edge syncs data between the desktop app and the cloud.
Eleo Edge maintains a persistent connection to the Eleo platform to keep local data in sync with your cloud account. This ensures that product information, printer configurations, and store settings are always up to date on the device, and that operations performed offline are replayed to the cloud when connectivity is restored.
Real-time connection
Edge communicates with the Eleo platform over a WebSocket connection. This provides a persistent, low-latency channel for:
- Receiving print jobs dispatched from the cloud.
- Reporting device health (online status, printer availability) back to the platform.
- Receiving configuration changes made in the dashboard.
Edge performs a health check every 30 seconds to confirm it is still connected. If the connection drops, Edge automatically attempts to reconnect.
What gets synced
When Edge connects to your store, it syncs the following data locally:
- Store information — Store name, address, phone number, and logo (cached as a Base64 image for offline receipt printing).
- Receipt settings — Header text, footer text, logo visibility, barcode type, and auto-print preferences.
- Printer and station configuration — Which printers are assigned to which stations and their roles.
- Product catalogue — Product names, prices, and barcode data needed for label printing and offline operation.
Edge caches data locally so it can continue operating during internet outages. The cached data is refreshed automatically whenever connectivity is restored.
Sync direction
Data syncing in Edge is primarily one-directional:
- Cloud → Edge — Store settings, receipt configuration, product data, and print jobs flow from the Eleo platform down to the Edge device.
- Edge → Cloud — Device health reports, print job status updates, and any offline transactions are pushed back to the cloud.
Offline queue
If Edge is operating without an internet connection, it queues any outbound data (print job statuses, transaction records) locally. When the connection is re-established, the queue is replayed in order, ensuring nothing is lost.
For the best experience, keep Edge running at all times on your store computer. This ensures data stays fresh and print jobs can be received instantly. If Edge is closed, print jobs will queue on the server and be delivered when Edge reconnects.
