Print Queue & Jobs
Monitor print jobs, understand job statuses, retry failed prints, and troubleshoot common queue issues.
What are print jobs?
Each time Eleo needs to print something — a customer receipt, a station ticket, a product label, or a test page — it creates a print job. Print jobs are queued, dispatched to the appropriate Edge device, and tracked through to completion. The print queue gives you full visibility into every job and its current status.
Job types
Eleo supports the following print job types:
- Customer receipt (
customer_receipt) — A standard receipt given to the customer after a sale, containing line items, totals, and payment details. - Station ticket (
station_ticket) — A preparation ticket sent to a station printer (e.g. kitchen or bar) listing the items that need to be prepared. - Test print (
test_print) — A diagnostic page used to verify that a printer is connected and working correctly. - Amendment (
amendment) — A modified version of an existing order ticket, printed when an order is updated after the original ticket was already sent to a station.
Print job lifecycle
Every print job moves through a series of statuses from creation to completion:
- Queued — The job has been created and is waiting to be dispatched to an Edge device.
- Dispatched — The job has been sent to the Edge device and is being processed locally.
- Printed — The job was successfully sent to the physical printer and completed.
- Failed — The job could not be printed due to an error (e.g. printer offline, paper jam, driver error).
- Retrying — Edge is automatically attempting to print the job again after a failure.
Monitoring the queue
You can view the print queue from the Edge dashboard. The queue displays all recent print jobs grouped by status:
- Pending — Jobs that are queued or dispatched and waiting to complete.
- In progress — Jobs currently being processed by an Edge device.
- Completed — Jobs that have been successfully printed, shown as a historical log.
Each entry in the queue shows the job type, target printer, station, timestamp, and current status. Click any job to see its full details including the order reference and any error messages.

Failed jobs and retries
When a print job fails, Edge automatically attempts to retry it up to three times with a short delay between each attempt. If all retries are exhausted, the job is marked as permanently failed.
You can also manually retry a failed job from the queue detail view. Click the Retry button to re-dispatch the job to the Edge device. This is useful after you have resolved the underlying issue (e.g. reconnected the printer or cleared a paper jam).
Print jobs are dispatched to the Edge device assigned to the relevant station. If no Edge device is currently online for that station, jobs remain in the queue with a “Queued” status until a device connects. Once the device comes online, queued jobs are dispatched automatically.
Troubleshooting common issues
- Device offline — Check that the Edge application is running on the computer and that the computer has network connectivity. The Edge icon should be visible in the system tray. If the device appears offline in the dashboard, try restarting the Edge application.
- Printer not responding — Verify that the printer is powered on and connected (via USB or network). Check the printer’s own status indicators for errors like paper jams or low paper. Try printing a test page from the operating system’s printer settings to rule out driver issues.
- Job stuck in queue — If a job remains in “Queued” status for an extended period, confirm that the target station has an active Edge device assigned to it. Check that the device is online and that the assigned printer has the correct role for the job type.
