DocumentationEleo EdgeSetup & Installation

Setup & Installation

Download Eleo Edge, install printer drivers on your operating system, and prepare your hardware for use.

Before you can print receipts or labels from Eleo, you need to install the Edge desktop app and set up the printer drivers on your operating system. This guide walks you through both steps.

Step 1: Install printer drivers on your OS

Eleo Edge communicates with printers through your operating system’s print subsystem. This means your printer must first be installed and working at the OS level before Edge can use it. Set up your printer driver before installing Edge.

Install drivers first

Edge discovers printers that are already configured on your system. If your printer is not set up at the OS level, Edge will not be able to detect or use it.

Windows

  1. 1

    Connect your printer

Plug your receipt or label printer into your computer via USB, or connect it to the same network if it is a network printer. Windows may automatically detect and install a basic driver.

  2. 2

    Install the manufacturer driver

For best results, install the official driver from your printer manufacturer. Common receipt printer brands include Epson, Star Micronics, Bixolon, and Rongta. Visit the manufacturer’s website, download the driver for your specific model, and run the installer.

For Epson TM series printers, download the “APD (Advanced Printer Driver)” from Epson’s support site. For Star printers, use the Star Windows Software package.

  3. 3

Verify the printer appears in Settings

Open Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners. Your printer should appear in the list. Print a test page to confirm it is working correctly.

macOS

  1. 1

    Connect your printer

Connect your printer via USB or ensure it is on the same Wi-Fi network. macOS will often detect USB printers automatically.

  2. 2

    Install the manufacturer driver

Download the macOS driver from your printer manufacturer’s website. For Epson receipt printers, download the “Epson TM Utility” or the CUPS driver package. Run the installer and follow the prompts.

If you are using an Apple Silicon Mac (M1/M2/M3/M4), verify that the driver supports ARM64. Most modern printer drivers include universal binaries.

  3. 3

Add the printer in System Settings

Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners → Add Printer. Select your printer from the list. If it does not appear, click the IP tab for network printers and enter the printer’s IP address. Select the correct driver from the “Use” dropdown.

  4. 4

    Print a test page

Select the printer and click Print Test Page (or open a text file and print) to verify it works correctly.

Linux

  1. 1

    Install CUPS

Most Linux distributions include CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) by default. If not, install it:

    sudo apt install cups
  2. 2

    Connect and add the printer

Connect your printer via USB. Open the CUPS web interface at http://localhost:631 and navigate to Administration → Add Printer. Select your printer from the list of discovered devices. CUPS will attempt to use a generic driver. For better compatibility, install the manufacturer’s Linux driver if available.

  3. 3

    Verify with a test print

From the CUPS interface, select your printer and click Print Test Page to confirm it is working.

Network printers

If your printer is connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, make sure the computer running Edge and the printer are on the same local network. You will need the printer’s IP address to add it. Consult your printer’s manual for instructions on finding or configuring a static IP address.

Step 2: Download and install Eleo Edge

Once your printer is set up at the OS level, download and install the Edge desktop app.

  1. 1

    Download Edge

Go to the Downloads page and scroll to the Eleo Edge section. Download the installer for your operating system:

    • Windows — EleoEdge-Setup.exe
    • macOS (Apple Silicon) — EleoEdge-arm64.dmg
    • macOS (Intel) — EleoEdge-x64.dmg
    • Linux — .deb or .tar package
  2. 2

    Run the installer

Windows: Double-click the .exe file and follow the setup wizard. Edge will be installed and added to your Start Menu.

macOS: Open the .dmg file and drag Eleo Edge to your Applications folder. On first launch, you may need to right-click and select “Open” to bypass Gatekeeper.

Linux: Install the .deb package with sudo dpkg -i eleo-edge_*.deb, or extract the .tar archive and run the binary.

  3. 3

    Launch Edge

Open Eleo Edge from your applications. It will start running in your system tray (Windows/Linux) or menu bar (macOS). Edge starts a local service on port 21321.

  4. 4

    Verify Edge is running

Open the Eleo Suite dashboard in your browser. If Edge is running, you will see a green “Edge Connected” indicator in your store settings under Settings → Receipt Printing.

Edge needs to remain running in the background for printing to work. We recommend configuring Edge to start automatically when your computer boots. On Windows, Edge adds itself to startup by default. On macOS, you can add it via System Settings → General → Login Items.

Setting up a label printer

Label printers require slightly different setup because they use specialised media (label rolls) and specific print drivers.

  1. 1

    Install the label printer driver

Download and install the driver for your label printer. Common models include Zebra, DYMO, TSC, and Brother QL series. Each manufacturer provides a dedicated driver that handles label sizing and media detection.

  2. 2

    Configure label dimensions

After installing the driver, open your printer preferences at the OS level and set the correct label dimensions (width and height) to match the label rolls you are using. Incorrect dimensions will result in misaligned or cropped prints.

  3. 3

Assign the printer role in Eleo

Once Edge detects the label printer, assign it the “label” role in your station configuration. See Stations and printer roles for details.
