DocumentationEleo Edge

Eleo Edge

Offline-capable desktop app for local printing, barcode scanning, and hardware integration.

What is Eleo Edge?

Eleo Edge is a lightweight desktop application that connects your local hardware — receipt printers, label printers, barcode scanners, and cash drawers — to the Eleo Suite web dashboard. It runs quietly in the background on your computer and handles all communication between your browser and your physical devices.

Without Edge, the browser has no direct access to USB or network printers. Edge bridges that gap by exposing a local HTTP API on your machine that the Eleo dashboard communicates with automatically.

How it works

When you install and run Eleo Edge on a computer, it starts a local service on port 21321. The Eleo Suite dashboard automatically detects when Edge is running and displays a green status indicator. From that point on, printing and other hardware operations work seamlessly.

Edge supports two printing paths:

  • Cloud path (primary) — Print jobs are sent from your browser to the Eleo API, which dispatches them to your Edge device via WebSocket. This is the default and supports remote printing across devices on your network.
  • Local path (fallback) — If the Eleo API is unreachable (e.g. during an internet outage), the dashboard sends print jobs directly to Edge over your local network. Printing continues to work even when you are offline.
Edge works in the background

Once installed and paired, Edge runs silently in your system tray. You do not need to interact with it directly — the Eleo dashboard handles everything.

Supported platforms

Eleo Edge is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can download the latest version from the Downloads page.

  • Windows — Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
  • macOS — macOS 12 (Monterey) or later. Both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel builds are available.
  • Linux — Ubuntu 20.04+ or equivalent. Available as .deb package and .tar archive.

Key features

  • Receipt printing — Print customer receipts automatically after each sale, or on demand from the order detail page.
  • Label printing — Print product labels with barcodes, pricing, and your store logo.
  • Stations — Define physical preparation areas (kitchen, bar, counter, packaging) and route print tickets to the correct station automatically.
  • Print queue — Monitor all print jobs in real time, track statuses, retry failed prints, and troubleshoot issues from a centralised queue.
  • Station routing — Assign printers to stations (e.g. counter, kitchen, bar) so print jobs are routed to the correct device.
  • Offline resilience — Print jobs continue to work via the local fallback path when your internet connection drops.
  • Multi-device support — Pair multiple Edge devices to a single store for different workstations.
  • Auto-updates — Edge checks for updates automatically and can be updated from the Eleo dashboard.

Eleo Edge requires an active Eleo Suite subscription on a plan that includes the Edge feature. Check your plan details under Settings → Plan & Billing.
