Printing on Edge
Configure receipt printing, label printing, stations, and printer roles with Eleo Edge.
Eleo Edge handles all printing between the Eleo Suite dashboard and your physical printers. This guide covers how receipt printing and label printing work, how to configure stations and printer roles, and how to customise what appears on your receipts.
How printing works
When you print a receipt or label from the Eleo dashboard, the print job follows one of two paths:
- Cloud path (primary) — The print job is sent from your browser to the Eleo API, which dispatches it to your Edge device via a WebSocket connection. Edge then sends the job to the appropriate printer. This is the default path and supports remote printing (e.g. printing from a tablet to a printer on another computer).
- Local fallback path — If the Eleo API is unreachable (internet outage, server maintenance), the dashboard sends the print job directly to Edge over your local network on port
21321. This ensures printing works even when you are offline.
The failover between paths is automatic. You do not need to configure anything — the system detects connectivity issues and switches transparently.
Receipt printing
Receipt printing is the most common use of Edge. Receipts can be triggered automatically after a sale or manually from the order detail page.
Printing a receipt manually
Open any order from Sell → Orders → All Orders and click the Print Receipt button. Edge will send the receipt to the printer assigned to your current station (or the default printer if no station is configured).
Auto-print
When auto-print is enabled, a receipt is printed automatically every time a payment is completed. This is ideal for busy retail or food service environments where you want a receipt handed to every customer.
To enable auto-print, go to Settings → Receipt Printing and toggle Auto-print receipt after payment on. You can also configure the default number of copies (1–5) printed per transaction.
Receipt content settings
Customise what appears on your receipts from Settings → Receipt Printing:
- Header text — Custom text displayed at the top of the receipt, below the logo. Use this for a tagline, branch name, or tax registration number.
- Footer text — Custom text at the bottom of the receipt. Commonly used for “Thank you for your patronage!” or return policy information.
- Show store logo — Toggle whether your store logo appears at the top of the receipt. The logo is pulled from your store settings.
- Show customer name — Include the customer name on the receipt when the order has an associated customer.
- Show cashier name — Display the name of the team member who processed the sale.
- Show barcode — Print a QR code or Code 128 barcode on the receipt. This can be scanned to quickly look up the order.
- Barcode type — Choose between QR Code or Code 128 format.
Setting up your receipt logo
The logo on your receipts comes from your store’s logo setting. To set or update it:
- 1
Go to your store settings
Navigate to Settings → General or your store profile page.
- 2
Upload your logo
Upload a square logo image. For best results on thermal receipt printers, use a high-contrast black-and-white image. Colour logos will be automatically converted to greyscale by the printer.
- 3
Enable logo on receipts
Go to Settings → Receipt Printing and ensure Show store logo on receipt is toggled on.
When printing via the local fallback path (offline), Edge uses a cached Base64 version of your logo so it can print even without internet access. The logo is cached during the initial sync after pairing.
Label printing
Label printing lets you create product labels with barcodes, pricing, and your store branding. Labels are typically printed on dedicated label printers with adhesive label rolls.
To print labels, you need a label printer set up at the OS level (see label printer setup) and assigned the “label” role in your station configuration.
Make sure your label printer driver is installed on your operating system and the label dimensions are correctly configured in the driver settings before assigning it as a label printer in Eleo. See the Setup & Installation guide for driver installation instructions.
Stations and printer roles
Stations let you organise your printers by location or function within your store. A station represents a physical area (e.g. “Counter”, “Kitchen”, “Bar”) and can have one or more printers assigned to it, each with a specific role.
Printer roles
Each printer assigned to a station has a role that determines what type of print job it receives:
- Receipt — Handles customer receipt printing. This is your main thermal receipt printer at the checkout counter.
- Label — Handles product label printing. Typically a dedicated label printer (Zebra, DYMO, etc.).
- Ticket — Prints station tickets, such as kitchen order tickets for food preparation.
- General — A catch-all role for printers that handle any type of print job.
Using the same device for multiple roles
A single printer can be assigned to multiple roles if needed. For example, if you only have one thermal printer, you can assign it both the “receipt” and “ticket” roles. When a print job comes in, Edge routes it to the printer matching the appropriate role.
Selecting your station
When printing, the system needs to know which station you are working from to route the job to the correct printer. Station selection works as follows:
- If your store has only one station, it is automatically selected.
- If you have multiple stations, you can choose your active station from the print interface. Your selection is saved locally so you do not need to pick it again each time.
- If no station is configured, print jobs are sent to the first available printer.
Print job lifecycle
Every print job moves through the following statuses:
- Queued — The job has been created and is waiting to be dispatched to Edge.
- Dispatched — The job has been sent to the Edge device and is being processed.
- Printed — The job was successfully sent to the printer.
- Failed — The job could not be printed (e.g. printer offline, paper jam, driver error).
- Retrying — Edge is automatically retrying a failed print job.
Print job types
Eleo supports several types of print jobs:
- Customer receipt — A standard receipt given to the customer after a sale.
- Station ticket — A kitchen or preparation ticket sent to a station printer.
- Test print — A test page used to verify printer connectivity.
- Amendment — A modified version of an existing order ticket, printed when an order is updated after the original ticket was sent.
If the target printer is turned off, disconnected, or experiencing an error, the print job will fail. Check the Edge status indicator and ensure the printer is powered on and connected before printing.
