Choosing a Mode

Eleo Edge runs in Checkout or Tools mode. Learn which to pick for each terminal.

When you open Eleo Edge, the first screen asks how you want to use the terminal. Your choice tailors the app to the job in front of it — you can switch modes at any time, and Edge can remember your choice for next launch.

Checkout mode

Use Checkout mode on a till or point-of-sale station. It opens the full selling experience: ringing up orders, taking payments (including card-present readers), open tabs, and printing receipts.

Because Checkout handles money and is used by individual cashiers, it asks staff to sign in after the device is paired. The sign-in identifies who is operating the till for accountability and reporting — it is separate from pairing (see below).

Tools mode

Use Tools mode on a back-office or utility machine. It focuses on label printing, the print queue, stock-related jobs, and device administration. Tools mode does not ask for a per-user sign-in — the paired device itself is the credential.

Pairing vs. signing in

These are two different things, and both matter:

  • Pairing authorizes the machine — it enrolls this physical terminal as a sanctioned device for your store, so it can sync your catalog and printers and be managed (or revoked) remotely. Both modes require a paired device.
  • Signing in identifies the person operating a till. Only Checkout mode asks for it, and it happens after pairing.

Both modes need the device to be paired. If a terminal isn't paired yet, Edge takes you to the pairing screen first — see Pairing Your Device.

Remember my selection

Tick Remember my selection on the mode screen to skip it on future launches. You can always change modes later from within the app.
